Supermicrosurgery revolutionizes lymphedema therapy, wrote Lucerne cantonal Hospital in their article on 9th of September 2020, as anastomoses of superficial lymphatic vessels and veins can now be performed.
In supermicrosurgery, as used in lymphatic vessel surgery, vessels with a diameter of less than 0.8mm are dissected and anastomosed. This type of microsurgery has revolutionized surgical treatment in the field of lymphedema therapy. Thus, anastomoses of superficial lymphatic vessels and veins can be performed for the treatment of disturbed lymphatic drainage pathways, which was previously not possible without supermicrosurgery.
